Church of Our Lady of Penha
The parish church of Vitoriano Veloso is simple on the outside, but very well maintained. The key to the little church usually stays with the residents, so it is necessary to go out and ask who has the key, to appreciate all the beauty and rococo style inside the church. Inaugurated in 1771, Nossa Senhora da Penha Church is listed by IPHAN, the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute.

Waterfall
Famous for the large number of waterfalls, Carrancas is a city located in the south of Minas Gerais, in the Alto do Rio Grande Basin, which has been gaining ground in the tourist circuit of travelers, especially nature lovers.
Its curious name dates back to the time of the Bandeiras, as the presence of minerals and their fertile potential attracted many pioneers to the region. The excavations carried out in the nearest mountain range made two large rocks have features similar to huge rustic faces, for those who saw them from afar, giving rise to the name of the city.
The tourist attractions are numerous, between the mountains and waterfalls, a range of options for those looking for adventure, as well as tranquility, in the same destination. The landscapes are enchanting and even served as scenarios for the recordings of several soap operas.

Ritapolis
Parish of Santa Rita de Cassia
The locality had the name of Santa Rita do Rio Below, belonged to the municipality of São José dei-Rei (current Tiradentes). The first documented reference to the village of Santa Rita do Rio Below is found in the baptism certificate of Domingos, Tiradentes' older brother, which took place on June 25, 1738. It was signed by the chaplain of Santa Rita do Rio Below, the Foot. Jose Fernandes de Barros.
Around this village of Santa Rita, others would appear, a little later, such as Lage (current Resende Costa) in 1749, São Tiago in 1761, Bom Sucesso in 1754 and Ibituruna still in the 17th century. (The Vilas dei-Rei and the Citizenship of Tiradentes, by Eduardo Caifabrava Barreiros, page 88).
In the pastoral guest book of Dom Frei José da Santíssima Trindade, we read: “your chaplain is Fr. Manoel Coelho dos Santos; It has been healing for 30 years because it is native to the place”. It was elevated to parish by law n. 669, of 04/28/1854. The first vicar was Fr Crispiniano Antonio de Souza In 1891, law n. 891, of 04/06/1891, transferred the parish from the municipality of Tiradentes to that of São João dei-Rei. Law n. 843, of 09/07/1923, changed the name of the district of Santa Rita do Rio Below to Ibitutinga.
In 1938, Decree-Law No. 148, of December 17, restored its original name, Santa Rita do Rio Below. In 1962, law n. 2,764, of December 30, when creating the municipality, separating it from São João dei-Rei, gave it the current name of Ritápolis. However, his political emancipation only took place on March 1, 1963.
Its main source of income is based on agriculture and commerce. It was elevated to the category of Sanctuary by decree 02/2003 on the initiative of the then parish priest Fr. Antônio Carlos Trindade da Silva and D. Waldemar Chaves de Araújo, which further increased the number of pilgrimages to this Sanctuary during the festivities in honor of the Patroness.
Currently the parish community has 09 rural communities which are: Prainha, Penedo, Ramos, Glória, Canoas, Monte Pio, Redondo, Restinga de Cima and Restinga de Baixo. Such communities are participatory and active in the parish's daily life.

Colonel Xavier Chaves (Crowns)
Mother Church of Our Lady of Conception
The Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Conceição was listed by the Municipality of Coronel Xavier Chaves-MG for its cultural importance to the city.
As early as 1700, there were reports of residents in the region, the first being those of the family of João Gonçalves de Faria Góes e Lara.
His children and grandchildren settle on nearby farms: Dois Córregos, Roça Grande and Retiro.
Coming from Rio de Janeiro, Major Matheus Mendonça marries into the existing family and settles in “Retiro”.
Colonel Francisco Rodrigues Xavier Chaves comes from the Jacaré farm in the neighboring municipality of Lagoa Dourada, who marries the Mendonça family and inherits the Mosquito Farm.
His wife was Joana de Mendonça Chaves and Colonel Xavier Chaves was the great-grandson of Antônia Rita de Jesus Xavier, Tiradentes' younger sister.
It should be noted that the Pombal Farm where Tiradentes was born, although belonging to the neighboring municipality of Ritápolis, is only 08 km away from the seat of the municipality of Coronel Xavier Chaves.
The Mosquito Farm was divided between the sons of Colonel Xavier Chaves and houses were built on the plots for family members. Man, of a certain culture, homeopath, the Colonel himself made an urban plan where 20 (twenty) houses were built, for family members, priests and others. He ordered the construction of houses on the so-called Rua de Cima for the workers on his properties.
The current layout of the city was expanded using the original layout as a reference. It can be concluded that the city was born planned.
The exact date of these events is not known, but it is assumed to be the last decade of the 19th century. The houses built by the Colonel were all his property until 1912.
Tiradentes District, changed its name to São Francisco Xavier in 1912. It should be noted that in 1943 a petition asked to change the name of São Francisco Xavier to “Canoas”, the name of a neighboring farm, but due to a misunderstanding because it was written in rough letters, the public notice bears the name of “Coroas”, as the city is called to this day throughout the region.
With the emancipation by Law 2764 of 12/30/1962, the municipality is renamed Colonel Xavier Chaves.

Tiradentes District, changed its name to São Francisco Xavier in 1912. It should be noted that in 1943 a petition asked to change the name of São Francisco Xavier to “Canoas”, the name of a neighboring farm, but due to a misunderstanding because it was written in rough letters, the public notice bears the name of “Coroas”, as the city is called until today throughout the region.
With the emancipation by Law 2764 of 12/30/1962, the municipality is renamed Colonel Xavier Chaves.
